10 Strange Facts About Dreams You Must Know

Today’s post was inspired by this weird dream I had last night. Dreams have a deep meaning and does not mean what you see. So that’s a relief! My main intention to write this post is to get more feedback on what people have experienced in their dreams. So do not hesitate to share your thoughts on this post and let us know if you’ve had similar experiences.

We only see the faces we know in our dreams

It is proven that in dreams we can only see faces that we have seen in real life before. So the strangers that you meet in your dreams actually have the faces of people who you’ve once seen in your real life but forgotten, like your childhood nanny, milkman, or that guy bumped into on the side walk that one time.

You Forget 90% of Your Dreams

Researchers says that within 5 minutes of waking, half of your dream would be forgotten. And within 10, 90% is forgotten. Keep a notepad next to your pillow to write down the dream if you want to remember it! 😀

Men and Women Dream Differently

Did you know that 70% of all the characters in a man’s dream are other men ? In contrast, women dream women and men equally. Also men’s dreams contain a lot more aggression. Both women and men dream about sexual themes equally often.

Sleep Paralysis

Sleep paralysis is a condition where you feel that you cannot move and some even wake up sweating and unable to move. You may feel a sense of an extremely evil presence in the room with you. It feels so real that you don’t feel like you’re dreaming.

Multiple dreams per night

An individual can have up to seven different dreams per night depending on how many REM(Rapid Eye Movement) cycles you have. People only dream during the REM period of sleep, and usually dreams one to two hours every night.

You can’t dream if you are snoring

They say you cannot dream while you are snoring. Not too sure how true that is, but I’ve asked people who do snore and it seems that they do not see any dreams during that time.

Precognitive Dreams

It is proven that between 18% and 38% of people have experienced at least one precognitive dream and 70% have experienced déjà-vu. After the 9/11 incident few of the victims and the relatives of the dead have mentioned that they dreamt a similar incident the previous night. Some people have dreamt the exact incident that happened to them. Weird huh?

Dreams in different colors

12% of sighted people dream exclusively in black and white. The remaining number dream in full color. Blind people who were not born blind dream too? Studies say some dream in black and white as well. They see images in their dreams but people who were born blind don’t see anything at all.

Your pet has dreams too

cat dream

Not only humans dream. Studies have proven that different animals show some brain activity while they are asleep. It’s probably why you see your pet cat or dog move their paws and make and sounds like they are chasing something.

Dreams don’t always mean what you see

Dreams are actually symbolic and has a deep meaning than what you actually see. For an instance some say seeing snakes in your dreams could mean that you are going to be making an enemy soon.
